A sign of hope
Opening Prayer
Thank you, Lord Jesus that in you, there is always hope; there is hope for today, there is hope for eternity. Help me to live in ways that are a testimony to your presence and love.
Read Isaiah 7:13-14
13 Then Isaiah said, “Hear now, you house of David! Is it not enough to try the patience of humans? Will you try the patience of my God also? 14 Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel.”
Meditation
Isaiah was a great prophet. The rulers of the nation were not treating their people well, and they were treating God even worse! Isaiah angrily spoke out against them, and warned them of very difficult times that were coming. But then he said an amazing thing: in the midst of despair there was hope. God was going to show the greatness of his love for them. The Lord himself would come and this was the sign: a virgin would give birth to a son and call him Immanuel—God is with us!
