Wake Up!
Opening Prayer
I praise You, God, that I can trust You to rescue me. Teach me how to walk in faith.
Read Psalm 108
1 My heart, O God, is steadfast;
I will sing and make music with all my soul.
2 Awake, harp and lyre!
I will awaken the dawn.
3 I will praise you, Lord, among the nations;
I will sing of you among the peoples.
4 For great is your love, higher than the heavens;
your faithfulness reaches to the skies.
5 Be exalted, O God, above the heavens;
let your glory be over all the earth.
6 Save us and help us with your right hand,
that those you love may be delivered.
7 God has spoken from his sanctuary:
“In triumph I will parcel out Shechem
and measure off the Valley of Sukkoth.
8 Gilead is mine, Manasseh is mine;
Ephraim is my helmet,
Judah is my scepter.
9 Moab is my washbasin,
on Edom I toss my sandal;
over Philistia I shout in triumph.”
10 Who will bring me to the fortified city?
Who will lead me to Edom?
11 Is it not you, God, you who have rejected us
and no longer go out with our armies?
12 Give us aid against the enemy,
for human help is worthless.
13 With God we will gain the victory,
and he will trample down our enemies.

Reflect
When you wake up, what’s your default feeling about the coming day?Although King David’s life was full of many challenges, with enemies at home and abroad, he had his priorities straight. By acts of faith he welcomed the day the Lord had made (1,2).
David shows us that by choosing to remember and celebrate God’s power and magnificent goodness to us, difficult circumstances are reduced in scale. We can find strength in the promise that “With God we will gain the victory” (13).
David knows that if we trust in human power we’re on shaky ground (12b), so he feasts
instead on the incomparable qualities of God’s character (4,5), and the promises of God’s triumph
(7–9). What are the promises in Scripture that stir faith in you? There is no getting away from God’s love, faithfulness and power to deliver us. When we deeply believe this we will burst with it and want everyone to know (3)!
Apply
Today, how will you shout it from the rooftops to wake up the neighborhood to God’s greatness and love?
Closing prayer
As you go to bed tonight, invite God’s peace to minister to you. As soon as you awake, declare verses 1–5 over your day.
