Too Great a Miracle
Opening Prayer
Lord, help me to have faith that anticipates Your promise not as less than I can imagine, but more.
Read LUKE 24:8-12
[8] Then they remembered his words. [9] When they came back from the tomb, they told all these things to the Eleven and to all the others. [10] It was Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary the mother of James, and the others with them who told this to the apostles. [11] But they did not believe the women, because their words seemed to them like nonsense. [12] Peter, however, got up and ran to the tomb. Bending over, he saw the strips of linen lying by themselves, and he went away, wondering to himself what had happened. Reflect
What was the reaction of the disciples to the women? The disciples had spent three years walking with Jesus. They had left everything to follow him. So, we might ask, why did they not believe him when he said he would come back from the dead? Jesus told the disciples many times that he was going to be handed over and crucified, and that he would be resurrected on the third day.The disciples were accustomed to Jesus speaking in parables and they mistook many spiritual analogies for physical ones (John 4:32), so perhaps we can understand that they originally thought the talk about crucifixion, and the subsequent resurrection, were non-literal words as well. But now, the crucifixion had happened, and Jesus had told them what to expect next. But, when the women told them what had happened, “their words seemed like nonsense.” Let us keep the childlike faith that believes that God is going to do all that he has said, even when it would seem like nonsense to us.
