No Doubt About It
Opening Prayer
“How great is our God.” Consider for a few moments the absolute greatness of God, and worship him for it.
Read Acts 2:29-36
[29] “Fellow Israelites, I can tell you confidently that the patriarch David died and was buried, and his tomb is here to this day. [30] But he was a prophet and knew that God had promised him on oath that he would place one of his descendants on his throne. [31] Seeing what was to come, he spoke of the resurrection of the Messiah, that he was not abandoned to the realm of the dead, nor did his body see decay. [32] God has raised this Jesus to life, and we are all witnesses of it. [33] Exalted to the right hand of God, he has received from the Father the promised Holy Spirit and has poured out what you now see and hear. [34] For David did not ascend to heaven, and yet he said, “‘The Lord said to my Lord: “Sit at my right hand [35] until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet.”‘ [36] “Therefore let all Israel be assured of this: God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Messiah.” Scripture taken from the Holy Bible, NEW INTERNATIONAL VERSION. Reflect
Why is Peter so confident about Jesus' resurrection?Years ago, John Lennon had apologized for saying The Beatles were “more popular than Jesus,” but the damage was done. Misinterpreted by magazines and taken out of context by religious organizations, all Lennon could do was clarify what he really meant and say “sorry.” Unfortunately, in this celebrity-driven, media-glorified world, it’s easy to confuse success with deity. As Peter continues to fascinate the Pentecost crowd, he makes sure there is no mistaking who the true King really is. One thousand years before Christ, a much-admired warrior, musician and poet called David became king of Israel. It is no accident that Peter quotes this beloved, highly respected ancestor of Jesus. The effect is twofold (29). First, by comparison, Jesus surpasses even the most righteous of all earthly kings to conclusively deserve the royal title. There’s no room for doubt: Jesus is the one true King and Messiah (31). Second, the tomb-busting resurrection of Jesus fulfills specific promises made by God through King David. This was no random incident but an integral part of God’s eternal plan. History had spoken and Peter connects the dots with all the artistry of a skilled painter, creating a picture of love and redemption with every brush stroke.

Has anyone taken the place of God in your life? If so, it’s time to say “sorry” and return to him.
