Psalm 150
1 Praise the Lord.[a]
Praise God in his sanctuary;
praise him in his mighty heavens.
2 Praise him for his acts of power;
praise him for his surpassing greatness.
3 Praise him with the sounding of the trumpet,
praise him with the harp and lyre,
4 praise him with timbrel and dancing,
praise him with the strings and pipe,
5 praise him with the clash of cymbals,
praise him with resounding cymbals.
6 Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.
Praise the Lord.

Reflect
Praise the Lord by singing a favorite song, getting on your knees to pray, clapping your hands, or playing a musical instrument for him.Psalm 150 leaves us no doubt about what we are required to do: ‘Praise the Lord.’ Whoever you are, wherever you are, whatever in- strument you play, the top priority is acknowledging God and giving him thanks. If you have any breath in your body, if you are a human living on earth or a being in his ‘mighty heavens’ (v. 1—possibly angelic beings), praise the Lord and, to be frank, let it rip! If you can’t play an instrument, you can always dance (v. 4).
Exuberant praise is worthy of the God who acts in salvation for help- less humans. These instruments are mostly difficult to play softly. This praise just can’t be done in a quiet corner. Everybody needs to hear and know about this God. This doesn’t negate the worth of quiet and contemplative worship, but there are times to break out, forgetting about what others think, working against any cultural inhibitions, and making it known how much we adore this God. He is the God who reciprocates this praise by singing over his people. Zephaniah 3:17 pictures the Lord singing over his people with either ‘joyful’ (NLT) or even ‘loud’ (RSV) songs. He loves us that much.
Apply
This is corporate worship on a grand scale. Can you join people outside your usual group to praise the Lord?
Closing prayer
Father, the longer I study your Word and experience your presence in my life, the more I find reasons to praise you. Thank you for making yourself known to me and showing me that you are more than worthy of any of the reasons I offer.
