LOOK AT YOUR LORD
Opening Prayer
God, I know You have spoken through Your Word. I want to hear Your voice today.
Read Hebrews 1:1–4
God’s Final Word: His Son
1 In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways, 2 but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom also he made the universe. 3 The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven. 4 So he became as much superior to the angels as the name he has inherited is superior to theirs.

Reflect
Do you ever wonder if God could really love you? The things you shouldn’t do… The things you should...How often do we cut ourselves adrift from God because we think we’re too impure for Him? But the writer to the Hebrews blasts our navel-gazing out of the water! God has given His final word to us: Jesus! Who He is and what He has done secure us in God’s love.
The writer gives us seven pillars – foundations of our salvation – and they’re all about Jesus, God’s eternal Son. Can you see them in verses 2 and 3? The Son is the heir of all things – His is the supreme place in all the universe (2)! It was through Him that the universe was created (2)! And when we look at Jesus, we see exactly what God is like in the brightness of His glory (3). Even more incredible: the oxygen we breathe, the molecules that make up our bodies, the whole universe, are only in existence because Jesus says so (3)! This glorious One humbled Himself to purify us from sin (3). And now He sits at God’s right hand. His work is complete (3).
Apply
When we look at ourselves it’s easy to feel our salvation hang in the balance. But when we look at Jesus… can He make us pure in God’s sight? Of course! Rest in this assurance today.
Closing prayer
I praise You, Savior, that You are enough for me. You have already accomplished what I could never do by making me righteous.
