19 Therefore, brothers and sisters, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus, 20 by a new and living way opened for us through the curtain, that is, his body, 21 and since we have a great priest over the house of God, 22 let us draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water. 23 Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. 24 And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, 25 not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.

Reflect
How do you like to be welcomed when you go to someone else’s home?At this point we come to a change of direction in the letter. For the past few chapters the writer has been showing us how Jesus has done everything to win our salvation for us. He has achieved what the Old Testament sacrifices could only ever point us to.
But now the focus shifts onto what we ought to be doing in response. And respond we must, in four different and very practical ways. Can you spot what they are?
First, we must not hold back from entering confidently into God’s presence because Jesus has opened up the way for us. Second, we must be faithful in standing up publicly as Christians, because the Lord is faithful to us. Third, we are not in this alone, so we must encourage one another to love and act as we should. And finally, because we are in this together, and because our future is assured, we must not give up meeting together, but go on encouraging each other.

Think through each one of these four instructions. Are there specific ways in which you can obey them today?
Closing prayer
Lord Jesus, show me how to follow these instructions, and give me the strength to obey.
