Safety for the flock
Opening Prayer
Good Shepherd, thank you that I can trust you to lead me to what is best, to walk close when I’m hurting, to love me even when I don’t deserve it.
Read Isaiah 40:10-11
10 See, the Sovereign Lord comes with power, and he rules with a mighty arm. See, his reward is with him, and his recompense accompanies him. 11 He tends his flock like a shepherd: He gathers the lambs in his arms and carries them close to his heart; he gently leads those that have young.
Meditation
God came with power to free the Jews in exile—their deliverance was promised and accomplished. Jesus came with that same power to liberate us from the bondage of sin; that, too, has been accomplished. With Jesus also came recompence, mercy and blessing. Like a shepherd, he lovingly provides all that is needed for his flock. He leads us to safety, and in God’s time, Jesus will lead us home. God’s greatest gift and greatest sacrifice—promised, provided–and giving still!
