Today’s reading from God’s Promise Kept
Come thou long expected Jesus
Opening Prayer
Thank you, heavenly Father, for the gift on your Son. This Advent season, as I wait, build in me greater appreciation and vision for the promise fulfilled—now and for eternity.
Read Galatians 4:4,5
4 But when the set time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, 5 to redeem those under the law, that we might receive adoption to sonship.
Meditation
For nearly 5 centuries, Christians have been singing Charles Wesley’s hymn “Come Thou Long-Expected Jesus.” Its two stanzas are rich in theology; the heart of Advent is in its title. Since early in Genesis, fallen humanity had waited for God to keep his promise of a redeemer. He kept that promise in Jesus, who would deliver us to live with him forever. Maranatha!
