The angelic host
Opening Prayer
With the host of heaven, Lord Jesus, I give you glory and praise. Thank you for the ever-growing community of saints who magnify your name.
Read Luke 2:13-16
13 Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, 14 “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.” 15 When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.” 16 So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger.
Meditation
The great company of heavenly host could be described as God’s angel army. They must have been an astonishing sight for the shepherds. The angelic host praised God for the birth of a tiny baby born in humble surroundings. Never had there been, nor would there ever be again, such an announcement of a baby’s birth—in any circumstance. But then, no other baby was born to do what this one would!
